An experienced website copywriter who understands sites, understands businesses, and understands how the two fit together.

I’m a Website Copywriter with more than three decades experience writing business websites.

I wrote my first client site in 1996, and I’ve worked on more than 400 since then.

No matter what your business does, how large or small your site is, or what state it’s in at present, I can work with you to plan and write content that will engage, persuade or convert visitors.

Website copywriting that views your site as a valuable business asset.

Building, overhauling or just updating a site involves an investment of both time and expense on your part.

That’s why,  as a website copywriter, I make sure that the content I write makes your site perform in the way it’s meant to.

  • If your site is there to generate leads, I plan pages and write copy that does that.
  • If it’s there to provide brand presence, I write to do that.
  • If it’s there to convert sales, I write for that specific purpose.

‘Website’ is just a format, in the same way that ‘book’ or ‘film’ are formats.

The important question is what, commercially, you’re expecting your website to do.

Website content I'm often asked to write.

A lot of my work involves writing or rewriting full sites, but as a website copywriter I’m also often hired to write individual parts of a site.

  • Home pages – the high impact ‘first impression’ page that acts as your business’s first point of contact with visitors.
  • Landing pages – a full story in one page, crafted to convert traffic from paid ads or search.
  • Services pages – key pages, detailing the individual services you provide and usually critical for SEO.
  • Product pages – key pages in e-commerce sites, detailing the individual products you offer, as well as the categories they may be grouped into. Again, usually critical for SEO.
  • Blog posts – engaging opinion or information pieces, usually between 600 and 1500 words in length, which improve SEO by extending the spread of search terms your site covers.
  • Case studies – evidential pages providing sales support by showcasing previous successful projects
  • FAQs – a question and answer format page dealing with common queries, and key to successful AEO.

Sitemaps and page content plans. The key to effective web content.

If your existing site, or the new site you’re planning, already has a properly worked out sitemap, all well and good. We do need one, however. So if it does not, I’ll help you to revise what you have or develop one from scratch.

The sitemap is what makes sure everyone involved – you, me, your developers and your content manager – understands what pages there are, how they inter-relate, and therefore what the job of each one is.

The other thing we need is a page content plan. This plans out what the separate component sections of information are that each page will need if it’s to do its job.  Again, if I’m working on your project and this does not yet exist, I work that out with you and agree all of it before I start writing.

SEO, AEO and GEO. Getting your website featured in search.

Being a capable, up-to-date SEO Copywriter is an important part of being a Website Copywriter.

Today, that means thinking beyond conventional search results. People search by voice as well as by text, and increasingly ask direct, unstructured questions of AI-powered search tools and assistants.

So when I plan and write your website content, I consider not only traditional SEO, but also Answer Engine Optimisation and Generative Engine Optimisation – helping to make your content clear, relevant and easy for both people and search technologies to understand.

Call me now. I’m probably here at my desk writing.

Reliability, professionalism and patience. The web copywriter's essentials.

Website content projects usually take time. They often involve multiple stakeholders or sign-offs.

They go through successive rounds of revision.

Understanding this, and being able to support this kind of workflow, comes with experience – something I’m really not short of.
