Pontes Indústria de Cera is Brazil’s oldest and best known manufacturer of Carnauba wax. The company is a member of Pontes Group, and remains a family-run business some 60 years after its foundation.

Led by Lara Pontes, granddaughter of the founder, since 1995, Pontes is managed with relentless respect for tradition in both its business dealings and its commitment to its associated communities.

We place equal weight on the traditional knowledge of the Carnauba community, and the adoption of new technologies and innovative processes. This combination ensures our ability to provide customers with premium quality products and services, while supporting economic development in our local regions.

Our History

• Pontes Industria was founded in 1956 by Liaderson Pontes, grandfather of our current President, Lara Pontes.
• In 1960, under Liaderson’s direction, the company built its original production site at Ceará’s Capital, Fortaleza.
• In 1971, the leadership of the company passed to Liaderson’s son, Domingos, who steered the operation through almost a quarter century of development and growth.
• Domingos’s daughter, Lara, assumed the role of President of Pontes Indústria in 1995, and remains in the post today.
• In 2003, Pontes Group opened its second production site in the State of Piauí.

Pontes manufactures at two advanced production sites. These are located in Brazil’s two most important Carnauba wax production regions: Ceará and Piauí.

These strategic locations guarantee the company access to the highest quality, uncontaminated raw material.

Pontes Indústria de Cera was built on the Pontes family’s belief in the possibility of encouraging transformation and economic development for the communities of Ceará and Piauí through careful and responsible development of these regions’ natural Carnauba resources.

Every decision we take is taken with complete respect for the Carnauba tree, the symbol of the States of Ceará and Piauí, which is also known as the ‘tree of life’ because of its ‘generosity’ to all around it.

With the fourth generation of our family now working in the business, respect and care not only for Carnauba, but for the ways and values of the communities involved in its extraction, is encoded in our DNA.

Notwithstanding all of the above, Pontes is far from a ‘folk’ industry.

Our fierce ethical conviction and social-environmental responsibility are complemented by a resolutely commercial commitment to excellence and to modern commercial and industrial best practices.

It is this combination that enables us to take the culture and industry of our region proudly to the world market through premium quality, high value industrial products.
