This is the script for a 45″ animated video to be used by Dragon Knight on the landing page of its corporate finance consultancy site. I wrote this as a parallel task to writing the site itself. Coming from a background in writing TV commercials, I particularly like tasks of this kind, and I’ve echoed the anarchic philosophy of the company in the writing not only of the voiceover script, but of the action itself. Web video script for corporate finance consultancy Dragon Knight.

The film is executed in a flat, vector graphic animation style, using simple block graphic images. In order to create energy in the storytelling, however the images make intelligent use of camera position changes, angles and perspective.

Open on a simple scene showing flat, graphic buildings, all rendered in tones of grey, on a street. Central to the line of buildings is an imposing modern tower building.

A small, slightly rickety little car, with a quirky shape like an old-style 2cv, bumps in from right and stops outside the building. The driver gets out and  looks up at its great height and enters.

MVO: Imagine you’re a small business and you want to scale production.

You could go to one of ‘The Big Four’ and choose…

In turn, three packages – one tall and thin, one small and fat and one cubelike, bang down onto the table.

  … “Deal A… Deal B… or Deal C.”

We cut back to the street. Same scene. No rickety little car.

    MVO: But say you’re a big business…

This time a limo pulls in from right and stops outside the building. The car door opens, and the occupant stands in front of the building, looking up.

MVO: and you want to make an acquisition.

     You could choose…

We again see the scene of the three packages – one tall and thin, one small and fat and one cubelike, bang down onto the table.

… “Deal A… Deal B… or Deal C”.

Back to the street. Another figure enters shot, this time zipping in from left on a skateboard.

MVO: A startup that needs a strategic partner?

Once more, we  see the scene of the three packages – one tall and thin, one small and fat and one cubelike, bang down onto the table.

 “Deal A… Deal B… Deal C.”

We cut back to the street and whip-pan left, coming to rest in a different part of the street. We find a more friendly looking, welcoming building, mainly in the dark red of the Dragon Knight brand scheme.

We cut in close to see the Dragon Knight logo by the door.

The camera passes through into a room interior.

MVO: Alternatively, come to Dragon Knight.

Still in the same graphic style, we find two or three people talking around a table.

MVO: Have a chat.

We see hand gestures by one of the people, indicating ‘bigger/wider/shorter/lumpier’.

We don’t do  ‘Deal A… Deal B or Deal C’.

There is a flurry of abstract activity, as though a dustcloud of inventiveness were shrouding the shape of the solution being put together.

MVO: We work out a solution that fits your needs, your forecasts and your resources.

Finally, a large, oddly shaped package, all moving bulges and bumps (like cats in a sack!) is pushed across the table towards the man who represents the business seeking finance.

He looks at it, eyes wide, and smiles.

MVO: That fits… YOU.
