If you’re going to run an ad campaign, you need creative work that will stand out and get noticed, while also delivering a strong and focused sales message at the same time.

Unfortunately, not every copywriter claiming to be an advertising copywriter really is an advertising copywriter. In truth, very few have the experience of working in advertising that you need in order to understand how advertising works. But you need someone who does understand and, more specifically, who understands how it works in the medium you’re planning to use.

Having spent almost 20 years as a Copywriter and Creative Director at some of the UK’s best advertising agencies, I have lots of experience of developing and writing advertising. (I’ve done this for Unilever, Marks & Spencer, The Guardian, The COI, Sure, The BBC and a host of other world famous brands. In doing so, I collected the kind of creative awards by which the advertising industry sets such store for many of these.)

Not just a copywriter… an advertising copywriter.

If you’re an SME business looking at using advertising, you’ll probably be considering a print or online campaign. (While television and outdoor media are both still exceptionally powerful, their cost tends to put them beyond the means of smaller businesses.)

These media both offer you affordable access to the power of the traditional advertising audience. Getting results from them, however, requires real skill. There’s no chance at all of a copywriter without proper advertising training and practise getting this right for you.

Sadly, if you get it wrong, and your advertising doesn’t achieve cut-through and get itself noticed and acted on, then the money you’ve spent on running it will have been wasted.
